21st Century Community Learning Center Grant

BCHS received a 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant that has been funded for five years. We are now in year two of the grant. Our first year 2007/2008 was very successful as we served over 300 students, teachers, and parents by offering learning experiences before and after regular school hours.

A 21st Century Grant is given to a school if the school has a high percentage of free and reduced lunch students and has students who have had difficulty meeting the goals on the Prairie State Exam.

Although we strive to reach students who are in academic difficulty or who may not meet the graduation requirements, the grant is also used for excellent students who want to take extra classes or merely wish for enrichment.

The major purposes of the grant are:

1) To provide students with academic enrichment opportunities as well as additional opportunities to complement regular academic programs and

2) To offer academic, artistic, recreational, and cultural enrichment programs when school is not in session.
